European green oak beams now available at PTP

We stock both structural and non-structural green oak European beams in a range of lengths and standard section sizes, but if we do not stock the size that you require we do offer a custom service to ensure that we can provide you with the oak beam you desire to complete your project.

Our Oak beams are cut according to the European QP1 standards. QP1 Oak has sharp edges, no wane and Minimum Sapwood.

There are certain characteristics that are accepted in this grade of Oak. Excluded: loose knots, frost cracking, ring shakes, star shake, curly grain, bark pocket, unsound sapwood, rot, white holes.

We can also provide structural grading for green oak beams.


European green oak beam specification

Sawn timber with practically sharp arrises, permitting wane less than 10% of the face width across no more than 30% of the length.

  • A width tolerance of 15% for sections above 250 x 250mm.

  • If the total width is less than 15% of the face width, sound sapwood is permitted on two arrises.

  • If the diameter is less than half the face width, intergrown sound knots are permitted.

  • Boxed heart, as well as traces of heartwood on both faces is permitted. The slope of the grain must be less than 12%, not exceeding 20% locally.

  • European green oak beams are also known as D24 Construction Grade


We can supply european dried oak in both rough sawn and planed all round finish. Typically items are window boards, skirting boards, door linings
